Dear Editor,
Having moved here from Ontario over a year ago, I had no idea what to expect. But I am grateful and very pleased.
A huge thunderstorm passed over our little house north of Otter Lake on Route 301 a couple of weeks ago and the lightning strike knocked out the hydro transformer, blasted a tree and hit the garage, sending dirt flying and a cover plate. Our car parked in front got hit and it wouldn’t start. The car’s computer was toast. It’s a write-off. But we were lucky. Nobody was hurt.
The Otter Lake firefighters came to our rescue immediately, checking inside the garage for smoke and even trying to boost the car. Hydro Quebec installed a new transformer on the pole behind our house the same night. Local electricians checked that everything in the house was working. Even our little dog outside was fine.
We are thankful. I guess living on a mountain in the middle of nowhere is not so bad after all. We love it here. Thanks everyone. I think we’ll stay.
