CAMPBELL’S BAY

Aug. 14, 2020

Over 75 residents gathered at Campbell’s Bay RA grounds on Aug. 14 to celebrate the official opening of the village’s new splash pad, a project that . . .

has been in the works for several years.

Before performing a symbolic ribbon cutting shortly after 4 p.m., Mayor Maurice Beauregard, Councillor Tim Ferrigan, Warden Jane Toller and MP Will Amos delivered speeches in celebration of the pad’s completion.

Ferrigan, who was a key part in keeping the project on track, spoke the most extensively.

“We have been successful in our project thanks to four groups that need to be thanked,” he told the crowd. “Our incredible volunteers, our financial partners who have been so generous, a mayor and a council that work well together and who support and participate in our events and a community that comes out to support.”

The construction of the pad was completed by local company Blue Heron Landscaping, and it is part of the Campbell’s Bay downtown parks improvement plan.

Phase one was completion of the mural park, while this project’s opening was phase two.

Phase three, set to be finished by the end of 2021, will be improving the playground and ballpark at the RA grounds.

The splash pad now provides an opportunity for aquatic fun for children around the area, something that was sorely missed according to Beauregard.

“Oh I’m very excited,” he told THE EQUITY before the opening. “The kids have been waiting for it for a couple years now. We’ve had everybody volunteering to raise money so we know it’s something that the town wants.”

Campbell’s Bay Mayor Maurice Beauregard delivers a speech to residents shortly before officially opening the splash pad for public use. Also delivering speeches were Councillor Tim Ferrigan, MP Will Amos and Warden Jane Toller.
