Dear Editor,

This past December/January, our municipality had a special project going on and kept our municipal workers working well past their traditional lay off time, working with shovels, water pumps and dump trucks.

It should have been no surprise that the municipality was responsible for the connections of the water and sewer lines to our new community centre.

Simple operation, run it out to the street and hook into the existing sewer infrastructure, after all there are maps showing all the existing connections.

In their wisdom or lack of, they decided to take the long route through the centre of the municipal park in the 0-20 flood zone. For a length of twice the distance and incorporating three manholes. This created a large berm through the centre of the park making future activities questionable. As everyone is aware, those manholes were under four feet of water this spring.

Any of the locals would tell you that the park floods on a yearly basis. So, even a fifth grader would be able to tell you that putting the sewer line with three manholes there is a bad idea. Did our experts at Environment Quebec not see this as a bad idea?

You be the judge. Ask your councillor.
