Dear Editor,

It should have been anticipated by the warden and mayors that existing power lines would not accommodate electricity generated from solar projects. Given the extensive public attention and petitions to the province regarding blackouts and outages, this issue warranted consideration prior to entering agreements with external companies.

I would now think that it is safe to conclude that our grid could not have handled the warden’s proposed municipally-owned 400,000-ton incinerator, which I believe would have required a grid capable of handling power for 150,000 homes, as does the similar-sized facility in Copenhagen. The foregoing leads me to question the potential for the newly acquired abattoir. Have the warden and council thoroughly researched the probability for success or is this a “build it and they will come” approach to investing?

The region needs new leadership. We need a warden and council who govern in a way that allows entrepreneurs to succeed instead of being the proponents or entrepreneurs themselves, risking the taxpayers’ money by embarking on multimillion-dollar ventures without basic information.
