In the article in the Nov. 17 edition of THE EQUITY about the injured hiker in Luskville, the first challenge the rescuers faced was locating the victim. There is a solution to this problem.
Someone, somewhere invented an app called, “What3words.” This app is absolutely free and unique. The inventor took the entire world and made 10 ft x 10 ft square grids. Each square grid has three unique words attached to it not shared by any other square. If the user finds themself in trouble and opens the app and the square that they find themselves in three words appear. Now all they need to do is call 911 and give them the words that are showing and the rescue team can locate them.
This app is presently being used by 911 and can potentially save someone’s life when time is of the essence. This app has many other uses even for recreation. Download the app and give it a try. During my First Aid courses I invite the students to look into it and many do.
