Gathered at the recreational center in Otter Lake, eight different teams signed up for their annual fundraising baseball tournament.

President of the RA, Shane Presley, highlighted that after talking to some of the locals many of the families said they wanted to have a splash pad for their kids.

“Every other little town has it except Otter Lake, we have a lake but I . . .

mean it’s dangerous for small kids. So that’s why we’re working on a splash pad to come in,” said Presley.

For the two-day tournament, they served breakfast on Saturday morning, the canteen and bar were open and had live music, a DJ and a BBQ. The tournament began early in the day and went until 9 p.m.

All the proceeds went towards raising money for the splash pad for the area.

The winners of the tournament were Hitmen’s coming in first, Knights in second and Killarney’s Third. The prize money was $300, $200 and $100. The two teams Hitmen and Knights donated it back to the RA for the splash pad.

Tara Betts, the secretary, highlighted that she loved having the ball tournament back and that the last time they had a fundraiser they were able to raise the fence at the RA grounds.

“People from Shawville, Bryson, Campbell’s, Fort-Coulonge, and Otter Lake came to play, so it’s great to see all the other municipalities and communities come into our town to help us fundraise for this splash pad,” said Betts.

With a group of about 10 volunteers, Presley said he couldn’t have done it without them. “They work hard and we try to work together and we just do this for the kids, this RA is for kids and all proceeds go back to the RA grounds,” he said.

The next event the RA is planning for is their dart league, which will be held sometime in October.
