The Bristol Fire Department hosted its second annual pancake breakfast fundraiser Saturday morning to help cover the cost of the department’s Jaws of Life rescue equipment purchased last year.

About 100 people lined up at the Bristol fire station throughout the morning to grab sausages and pancakes made and served by the department.

“It’s overwhelming, the amount of people that actually show up to support us,” said fire department captain Alex Mahon.

“We can’t do it without teamwork,” he said, explaining members of the department spent two hours Friday night and another hour and a half early Saturday morning getting everything ready.

If it wasn’t for all of us, we couldn’t do it.”

The breakfast raised just under $1,000 for the equipment used for the extrication of vehicle accidents. Combined with the funds from last year’s pancake breakfast, the equipment is almost paid off, Mahon said.

Profits from the Firemen’s Ball in the fall will also contribute to paying for the equipment until it is paid off.

Looking to the future, Mahon said with the amount of support from the community, the pancake breakfast is here to stay.
