Ladysmith held a small but vibrant Canada Day celebration at the TCRA grounds on Saturday. A large flea market was held in the Clarence Bretzlaff Building, with everything from DVDs to furniture for sale.
In the TCRA Hall, several local artists displayed their work. Thorne councillor Karen Daly Kelly said that the event was put together rather quickly but despite all the other activities taking place elsewhere, the TCRA wanted to celebrate locally.

“It was pretty quick putting it all together and there’s lots of things going on today,” she said. “We wanted to put something on for the municipality.”
She added that there were pine trees being given away for free, as well as maple leaf-shaped cookies.
Artist George Boros, who is involved with the TCRA, had a wide range of oil paintings on display.
“People here have talent, even if they don’t do it professionally,” he said, gesturing to the other artists in the hall, which included Gail Sharpe and Louise Tol. “An event like this shows community involvement.”
