A fundraiser has been started for a Thorne man who lost his home in a fire on March 14.

The effort was spearheaded by Andria Young, the sister of the victim, Dave Alexander. She said that Alexander had been . . .

living in Thorne for the last five years and was deeply attached to the property.

He was not home at the time, but his cat Copey was lost in the blaze.

Young said that her brother also lost family heirlooms, but added that the support he’s received from the community has been outstanding.

“It’s pretty devastating, he’s devastated,” she said. “The amount of outpouring that’s been happening, it’s overwhelming and just exceedingly amazing. It’s all very heart crushing and yet it’s also heart bursting at the same time.”

Young said that Alexander is currently staying with family and the current plan is to rebuild on the property.

As of Tuesday morning, the total stood at more than $15,000, with a goal of $20,000.
