I brought my pup to the park this fall. He played fetch and then sat on his haunches mouthing his favourite ball for the longest time. His tail moved back and forth contentedly. I thought, ‘Now that is happiness!’
Happiness is a great feeling and when life is going along well, the circumstances are right, it just happens. But what if things aren’t going well? What then? When we trust God, we may not feel happy but we can still feel joy. I have experienced it. Joy is different than happiness in that it does not depend on our circumstances.
When I accept that it is God, not me, who is in control, I can rest in His promises, no matter what the situation and I can experience His joy and peace. What comfort. And even more than that. He has promised that all things work together for the good of those who love Him. That is a sure hope. God keeps His word.
